So this has been something that's been on my mind for a while.
All of my commissions so far have been from DeviantArt, partly because I didn't advertise much on other sites (which in turn was because my PayPal didn't work properly), and partly because they were so cheap that many of the site's users could afford it.
But they went as low as as sixty points for a bust sketch, which is approximately sixty cents.
I am not blaming any of those who have commissioned me thus far since the prices were of my own decision, but take the example of the bust sketch.
It can take up to an hour or two to finish one, and the hourly minimum wage in either America or Korea is at least several dollars.
I am not saying that drawing is harder than working at McDonald's, but I am still taking time and effort for just sixty cents.
Which cannot be converted into money and is pretty much useless outside of DeviantArt.
In short - and this is what other artists have been telling me as well - I think I need to stop underpricing myself.
I have my PayPal sorted out now.
I want to raise my prices, advertise on other sites, and earn real money so that I can do more things such as commission other artists on other websites, and maybe even save up for the future.
This is not saying I would be closing points commissions completely; I may still do simple commissions at a relatively low price, and I plan to take requests from time to time.
No, I don't think my art's good enough to be super expensive.
I'll be mostly basing my new prices around half of the minimum hourly wage; since that of S. Korea is about $7, I am considering somewhere between $3~7 as the starting price for a bust sketch with no color.
[Example]
What do you think?
P.S. I'll also be getting rid of the grayscale colored sketch category. I found that it takes a similar amount of time to just do a colored drawing.
P.P.S. The changes won't take effect immediately; the two commissions I am currently working on will require no extra payment, and if you want to commission me right now, you can still do so with the prices (in points) listed in my Commission Journal.

Quitting DeviantArt
UPDATE: I'm not entirely quitting. I will answer comments/notes and maybe post something once in a while. However most art will still be uploaded on Tumblr or Twitter! I don't want to delete my account, but I'll probably stop posting here and just leave it as a kind of archive. It's too much of a bother. Maybe the odd drawing every so often at most. Tagging things is tedious and submitting to groups, even more so. And don't even mention having to combine multiple related drawings into one image every single time. There are already twenty-something drawings that I just haven't bothered to upload. If you wanna continue seeing my art, come to Instagram (@ one_tiny_snake), Tumblr (@ cupcakeshakesnake) or Twitter (@ SnakeDraws). Tumblr is where I post most regularly, btw. Twitter is a bit irregular but you can see my ramblings and WIP doodles from time to time. Instagram is not as recommended since I use it very irregularly. If you have something to tell me, I'll still be active here to
I,
Would it be selfish to ask you to live The sunlight shone through the yellow leaves and for a moment they were as green as spring Why is there so much hurt in the world?
Update v.15
I moved into the dorms again after a month of living alone. It smells so familiar and I hate it. It's a different room from the last two semesters, but in the same building, and of the same structure. It smells so familiar, and it's as if my body is associating it with mental illness and reacting viscerally. It's such a vague neutral scent that I can't describe it, but to me, this might be what depression smells like. It smells so familiar that it feels like home, but with a bitterness. Edit: I don't know if it's related, but I've been feeling unwell ever since I moved in. Nauseous. Stomachache. Restless sleep.

Not true. If a person submits points to you through a commission module rather than a donation pool, you can convert in "back" into money, though you will lose the 20% value.
But yeah, don't charge 60 c that's ridiculous.
